....so I thought it was time to write a little about some of the things we've done in the past month.
The end of July brought the Johnson County Fair. Since it's location is so conveniently located right down the street from us, we decided to make a couple trips. Of course we had to look at all the animals. JB liked most of them, and if we let him out of the stroller he'd run back inside the building to see more. Ever since we went to the fair he's really liked horses. Another one of his favorites was a particular cow that kept licking the wooden gate around him.
Opening night they had a bunch of tractors out to look at. JB's still in love with anything that has wheels, and he just couldn't get enough of these big tractors. He would have stayed all night if we let him.
(I don't know what I'm doing in this picture.)JB also got glasses the end of July. He has an eye that crosses and they're using the glasses to try to get him to use it more before it turns into a lazy eye. If the glasses don't work then we'll have to move on to using a patch, and the next step after that would be surgery. It was quite an ordeal to find a pair that fit a near 2 year old and that would stay up on his nose. The first pair we got fell down all the time and he never kept them on. After a few days they broke in a rather unusual place, and when we took them in to get them replaced they gave us a totally different pair. This new pair has ear pieces that go all the way around the ears and they don't fall down hardly at all! JB seems to like them much better, because he really doesn't ever try to take them off, and he seems to like wearing them. We think he looks super studious and smart when he wears them, especially when he's in daddy's chair reading a book.
We don't make it outside much these days due to the combination of heat, humidity, and my big ol' belly. But when we do his favorite things to do are play in the sandbox and get wet. He's decided sprinklers and hoses are two of the best things on the planet. This picture was taken after playing in the sandbox with Daddy. JB was washing the sand off himself.
Other things worth noting that we don't have pictures of are:
We went to Chicago as a family the last couple days of July. What an experience!! We Pricelined a hotel right downtown that was only a mile away from where Boyd would be attending a job interviewing conference for those seeking jobs in the IP field. We knew we'd have to pay for parking, but we didn't expect it to be 45/day!! (Parking alone cost us over $150 while there.) The first night there wasn't the best, with not knowing where anything was, but the next two days were a lot of fun. JB and I found a park that was a block away from our hotel, and we spent a good chunk of the morning there. Then when Boyd got back from interviews we went and walked along Lake Michigan (it was 3 blocks from our hotel) where we got splashed by waves and JB threw rocks in the water. The last day we had to check out of our hotel by 11, so we packed our stuff up and spent the day at the zoo. We did a lot of walking around, and got a lot of weird looks from people for having a kid and one on the way, but we now know where lots of good places to eat are and some fun places to go.
Boyd interviewed with 4 firms while there. So far he's been rejected by 2 of them, but he says that's okay because they weren't his favorites anyway. The two we haven't heard back from are in Troy, MI and Chicago, and we're quite hopeful that he'll get asked to a fly-back from them. He seems to really like the firm in Troy.
This past week he's had 6 more interviews with firms that came to UI campus. Of course it's too soon to hear back from any of them, but he feels like the interviews went well and he has some favorites that he's crossing his fingers for. One of them is up in Minneapolis. It basically sounds like his dream job. If only we could transplant it into his dream location (somewhere dryer without such a long winter).
He also made it onto Law Review this year, and we've already started the crazy hectic schedule that comes with it. Today and tomorrow he's at a writer's camp, learning pretty much nothing new, but it's mandatory. It'll keep him on campus two nights a week until 10 or so, and we'll miss him while he's gone. It's a good resume booster though, and you do what you have to do.
Monday he takes the patent bar. Pray that he passes!!! It's a 6 hour test with 100 questions. He's been spending a lot of time studying and taking practice exams. He's passed nearly all of the practice tests he's taken so we're hopeful that as of Monday he won't have to think about this anymore. And he'll be a patent agent!
School starts on Tuesday. I can't believe that it's that time already. Even though he's really only got 1 class each day, he has a super full schedule. Along with classes, he'll still be working in the Clinic as an interpreter for a couple hours each day, putting in hours for Law Review, writing memos for Law Review, and will be gone 3 nights a week for ACs and a class. As crazy as it's all going to be, we're excited for it to start. At least we'll have a steady schedule we can get into, without all the stress of the patent bar, interviews, etc. The year's going to fly by!! (and then we'll only have 1 year left :)
As for me, I'm trying to keep my feet unswollen enough to get them into the one pair of shoes that fit right now and keep up with as much of the housework as possible. I'm ready for this baby to come, but not until after the patent bar. That's the deal, okay Little One? We're ready for you , come any time, but please don't interfere with Daddy's crazy next two days. Thanks!
